Preliminary exercise: recreation

1) Why did you choose this particular recreation and how does it link to your main production?

The recreation of the benefits street sequence I have chosen will link to my main production because I will be creating a similar type fly on the wall documentary following one lead protagonist. I chose this sequence because it allowed me to gain an insight into the types of shot and frames used for this type of documentary.

2) What difficulties did you face in producing this recreation?

The main difficulty I had when filming my recreation was finding a location. Because the sequence was set in a shop, I found it difficult to find a shop that was willing to allow me to film there. In addition the sound aspect was a problem as the microphone we used during films did not work, meaning that some speech came out unclear.

3) What are the strengths of the production?

I think one of the main strengths of my production was the voice over narration which I recorded using a voice recorder. I think that the narration sounded professional and suited my recreation. In addition I think that my recreation was accurate and I copied the shots from my recreation text well.

4) What aspects would you look to improve?

The main aspect I would look to improve are the sound as previously mentioned was an issue and therefore ensuring that all audio is clear will be essential in my real production, especially considering my documentary contains many interviews.

5) What lessons will you take from this process that will help you with your main production?

I learnt that I must ensure that all equipment is working and is ready to shoot before I take it out as it can jeopardise all of our plans to shoot if the same issue happens again. Similarly the experience of editing again will also help me when editing my main production.
